Dr. Michael Lam:

What are metabolites and why should you care? metabolites are the products of metabolism. Every time you eat, drink or breathe, your body produces metabolites. Think of your body like a factory where raw materials such as food and air are processed into finished goods like metabolites. But with some of these finished goods can turn out to be faulty products, otherwise known as reactive metabolites, the good, bad, and the reactive metabolites, not all metabolites are created equal, some can actually damage your cells. Imagine these reactive metabolites as the weeds in your garden of your body, if left unmanaged, they can overrun the garden and cause havoc. Some of these things that can cause the over creation of reactive metabolites, are medications, chronic infection, your environment, heavy metal accumulation, supplements, illnesses or injury, stress, whether physical, emotional or mental, food and drink products, chemicals, preservatives, and pesticides. How does the body deal with metabolites, the liver is the primary detoxification center for the activation of these metabolites, and then they are sent to kidney for expulsion. Just like a waste management system, your liver needs to be in tip top shape to handle this crucial job. Basically, you need to remember that just because something is natural does not mean it is harmless. There's a lot to take in when considering whether something is beneficial or detriment to your body, including how much energy is needed to process it, how much energy the liver needs to break it down the amount of damage done by the metabolites that are created in the breakdown process, and whether the body can remove the pollution generated by transporting the metabolites through the extracellular matrix into the kidneys. What makes reactive metabolites multiply various factors can cause an overload of reactive metabolites in your body. These include medications, infections, environmental factors, heavy metals, supplements, stress, and even the food you eat. It is like adding fuel to the fire. The more you add, the bigger the blaze, supplement Friend or foe, even supplements which you may think and may be taking to improve your health need to be metabolized. Vitamin C, for example, go through various processes in the body that can produce metabolites which may not be well tolerated if you're already weak and unwell. So it is a paradoxical situation of trying to do good, but ending up with unintended consequences that are negative. The complexity of metabolite management, Processing supplements takes energy and the process itself can cause damage if it's not working correctly. Consider it like taking a complex machine. If one gear is faulty, it can affect the whole mechanism. When metabolites overwhelm your system, RMO reactive metabolite overload RMO occurs when the buildup of metabolites outpaces the body's ability to remove them. RMO is marked by symptoms and issues like brain fog, pain, mood issues, hypersensitivity, fatigue, insomnia, palpitations, it's like a traffic jam where cars metabolites are piling up faster then can exit the highway. Strategies for a healthier you. Here are some ideas to help you cope with reactive metabolites. Consult your medical doctor about medication. Increasing antioxidant intake boosts sulfur containing molecules for neutralizing radicals. Adopt a diet rich in specific vitamins and stress reduction and proper exercise. Remember, these strategies need to be personalized, as even doing good can backfire if not done properly. That's all we have for today.
